Firstly having to enter payment details on setup was annoying, (had to phone a premium helpline to get them to setup an account without payment details) secondly after restarting setup the remote refused to pair and the device kept locking up *while* pairing, lots of times! Here’s my review of the Chromecast: http://all-tech-thoughts.blogspot.com/2014/04/google-chromecast-unboxing-and-review.html

And here’s my Roku experience http://all-tech-thoughts.blogspot.com/2014/05/roku-streaming-stick-problems.html

On initial setup it kept telling me I had entered my wifi password incorrectly, though I know I hadn’t. Eventually it took the password, but once setup was complete I found that getting a truly HD quality image from Netflix or Youtube was a hit or miss thing. I have a smart tv and have no problem getting HD picture quality, but on the Roku it would constantly go in and out. The remote would constantly lag. Sometimes the iPhone app was more responsive than the remote, but other times it was just as bad. I was curious to see if I had just gotten a bad Roku so I exchanged it, only to find that the replacement unit had the same problems. I will be returning the replacement Roku for a refund and I have purchased the Google Chromecast, which doesn’t currently have the number of channels available that Roku has, but it actually works.
