The latest addition to the Roku lineup – Roku 4 – featuring a quad-core processor this thing can kick out 4K HEVC content up to 60 fps(frames per second). The Roku 4 will be available for $129.99 on October 21st, 2015, however you can pre-order it today.
Roku didn’t stop at the ability to stream 4K and 1080p they also added optical audio out, HDCP 2.2 and 802.11ac MIMO Wi-Fi. The remote control also comes equip with voice search, headphone jack and remote finder. It’s got a microSD slot for storage expansion and a USB drive for local/personal/offline media expansion. The Roku 4 will support Dolby Digital plus 7.1 surround sound and comes equip with the standard 10/100 ethernet port. They’ve increased the physical size of the Roku 4 to 6.5 x 5.5 x 0.8 inches and weighs in at 0.9lbs which is significant compared to the Roku 3 at 5 ounces and measuring only 3.5 x 3.5 x 1 inches.
The Roku 4 will come equip with the latest OS – Roku OS 7; Roku OS 7 features Roku Feed which gives you the ability to follow TV shows for new episodes and movies for price drops. It also has a featured 4K channel and channel category that will offer instant access to 4K movies, TV shows and more. You’ll now be able to cast 4K photos and videos from your mobile device to the Roku 4 via the Roku App for Android, iOS or Windows Mobile. The Roku 4 will also feature Hotel and Dorm Connect which allows you to connect to a Wi-Fi network that requires sign-in which you typically find in hotel rooms, dorms and other public settings.
