Netflix has increased the cost of the standard account which allows streaming HD on 2 screens at once from $8.99 to $9.99 per month for new customers while existing customers will also see the increase after varying grace periods based on location. I’m not sure how long these grace periods are but I’m still on my first grace period as I pay $7.99/month for a standard account.
Netflix does offer two other options that aren’t affected; a basic account costs $7.99/month and doesn’t offer HD and you’ll only be able to stream to one screen while a premium account costs $11.99/month and provides HD and UltraHD(4K) to four screens at once.
$1 isn’t that much when you think of what you’re getting, I’m talking specifically about Netflix Original Content, shows like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Narcos and more.
I’m more than willing to pony up the extra $1($2 in my case) for them to keep coming with this original content, but personally once my grace period is over I’m headed to the premium package.
