If you’re like me you’ve got a LG Smart TV that didn’t come with the Plex application installed(There was a time LG did have a Plex app that came pre-installed) then you were left using DLNA to stream your Plex library and although it worked, it left a lot to be desired. Now LG Smart TV owners can rejoice as PLAYz has made its way into the LG Smart World Market for a mere $5 USD thanks to the hard work of Simon Hogan and supporters.
Before you disregard PLAYz as it’s not part of the “Official Plex App Family”, let me educate you on the hard work of Simon Hogan and why you’ll be happy to hand over the cash. Simon’s been working on this app for almost a year, it was available for free while being developed as Simon only accepted donations; BTW this isn’t Simon’s full-time job. Simon fought an epic uphill battle with LG just to get PLAYz approved in the store as seen here – Post by Simon J. Hogan.
Personally there’s a good chance that most of us would’ve given up at this point, but not Simon. After 7 months and some public assistance PLAYz is finally approved.
Our congratulations and thanks to Simon Hogan for his hard work in developing PLAYz which now is #1 in the LG Smart World Market.
BTW, there’s also word of him working on an application for LG for Media Browser as well.
How to Install:
It doesn’t get much easier than clicking on the “Smart” button on your LG TV, navigating to the Smart World section, locating PLAYz in the market and then purchasing it and installing the application. After installation is complete, run the application and it will ask you for the IP of the Plex Media Server, there is also the option to scan your network which in my case worked like a charm. Once the IP is populated, just hit save and your off and running with access to your Plex libraries.
Here are a few screenshots of the PLAYz application in action.
On other Plex apps, you can connect to your Plex server through your Plex login information. There are two HUGE advantages to this.
1) Your Plex server does not have to be on your LAN (local area network).
2) You can connect to friends servers.
With the current version of PLAYz, this only a little better than connecting to the Plex DNLA media server.
Guys purchased plex on my lg tv but i can’t access it on my NAS (wd my cloud) I did it previous on free app (manual downloaded) Can someone guide me how to install it. It worked before but not any more. 🙁

Is there any way to install Plex at LG WebOS?
any one know how to connect to friend server using the LG TV app
To my knowledge you cannot, it uses DLNA.
I bought PlayZ through the market place on my LG. It can’t find my plex media server with scan or by typing in the IP address and port… I’m certain I’m doing it right, the TV is on the same network as the media server. I’m a network engineer so I know what I’m doing here. It’s broken, PlayZ is a complete waste of money, wish I could get a refund.
Did you end up getting it to work, mine was working fine and now its giving me the same message you have.
Seems like the same issue with me. Despite LG-TV saying there was an update to PlayZ today, and my downloading it, I am still having this issue where the TV cannot find my server. Annoying.
On the Plex Media Server, go to settings, show advanced, select channels and tick the box for Disable capability checking. You’ll also need to check to make sure DLNA is enabled on the server, something that was disabled automatically after I assigned a PIN to my login. I was having a problem before, but after doing these two things, it automatically found the pms and PLAYZ worked again.
i just tried this and still cannot find server
Try removing the pin from the account. Then confirm that under “Connect” for the PMS settings that Server is mapped to port 32400. Also, are you able to access it via any other devices on your local network?
Hi Daniel. Tried your suggestions but no luck – still didn’t work. However…..since then I also logged out of the section that allows you to reach your server outside of your home network (Server/Connect/log-in) ; it seems that if I am logged on in this section then my LG Smart TV cannot find the PMS but if I am logged out it does find it and all seems fine.
Alan you are a genius!!! I did what you said it now it works again, I have no idea why that would make it not work! Thanks!!!
Cheers, Steven. I do try my best
I don’t have a pin, and yes I can access from my iphone but not my tv. It worked fine the the first day, and then it just stopped working saying couldn’t connect to pms. I did not change anything so I am clueless why it’s not working.

Mine started working at first, then I installed it on my PC with Media. Then it just stopped, so i downloaded playz and i have the same issue you have now.

Hi Guys. I’ve purchased this app especially for being able to put subtitles on my movies. However it seems to cut the subtitles and only displays it until a special character comes. For example á or ű. I’m very disappointed, who can help me on this? :((((
Daniel – I’m posting your question over in the forums here – http://mediaputer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=11
Hoping someone can help you as I rarely if ever use subtitles…If someone has a suggestion, etc. please post over at the forum.
Hi there,
I bought a TV from LG is the PLAYz. I can not start, can not find any PMS Scan from the server. From phone to access the server, not your own private network, but also from outside.
Factory Plex app also works on it. What is wrong? The sign identifying the problem?
